Passing through…

Crex crex…
A corncrake has been reported from a farm near Halford!! Passing through on its amazing journey north out of Africa, with wings not much stronger than a moorhen, in search of safe traditional meadows in the Hebrides… Coll, Colonsay, Eigg, etc. If you’ve ever heard a corncrake you will know that Crex crex is the most perfect of Latin names. Several decades ago their rasping all-night call would have been heard in Warwickshire fields, but now they are limited to the islands of Scotland.
