Hawker at the front door

Just half-rescued a male damaged Common Hawker dragonfly (Aeshna juncea) near the front door – sadly it didn’t survive and its beautiful blue and yellow patterning has already diminished. Also buzzing around at the moment is the Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) – slightly bigger and both sexes more more green than blue. They generally return to a favoured branch or perch to bask in sunshine so watching them is sometimes easier than you might think. A few damselflies about too.
