Springwatch in Kineton

Spring is on the move.

Cherry Plum blossom

Cherry Plum blossom – Prunus cerasifera

The Cherry Plum trees are flowering near the top of Pittern Hill.  It won’t be too long until the Blackthorn (which produces sloes in autumn) gets going too.

Blackthorn and Hawthorn

Blackthorn on the left – flower buds bunched together. The two on the right are both Hawthorn.

At Kingstree Wood (at the top of Pittern Hill, just after the windmill tower) there was evidence of both deer and moles.

I watched a tiny goldcrest in the hedgerow by the chicken farm – very hard to photograph as it moved several times a second, hopping from twig to twig searching for food.

Mother’s Day frogspawn – the first in our pond in Banbury Street.  Fresh this morning.

Do you know of more frogspawn in the village?
