Plenty of activity today as young great spotted woodpeckerswere been gently shepherded around the garden. A parent parked a cute chubby fledgling under a peanut feeder and constantly went back and forth from ground to tree and back to ground. The youngsters – slightly rotund – aren’t as bright as the adults and have more barring along the back of their heads. And they are busy in the churchyard trees this evening.
The young moorhens on the pond at Little Kineton are also maturing fast and can now be seen exploring the grass verges beyond the reedy fringe.
