The cuckoo is here!

Heard a cuckoo at 5.30 this morning, calling from beyond the old railway line by the Primary School. Due to climate change they now tend to arrive in the UK an average of five days earlier than in the past and this one was certainly one of the earliest in Kineton for some years. Spring has sprung!

14th April – St. Tiburtius Day – was the day when you traditionally heard the first cuckoo, as celebrated in Rudyard Kipling’s Cuckoo Song:

Cuckoo, bring your song here!
Warrant, Act and Summons, please,
For Spring to pass along here!

But one of the first records this year was in Surrey on – wait for it – the 16th March!!

Keep listening…
