Hit the road Jack

“Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more…” (lyrics courtsey of Ray Charles!)

Jackdaws seem to have moved into the new owl box – not wholly unexpected since they took up residence once or twice in the old one – but at least the tawny is still hooting nearby. A clattering (that’s the collective noun!) of jackdaws is often to be seen and heard in the churchyard plane trees.

“Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz” – that’s an apangram… i.e. containing all 26 letters of the alphabet!

  1. I hadn’t heard the ‘Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz.’ before. I shall have to try and use it in school!
