Quiet as a mouse

This is always a quiet time of year – many birds are still out in the fields eating insects and grain and won’t be back at the garden feeders until October. A chubby baby blackbird is enjoying a few crumbs at our back door though and the tawny owl is still giving the odd hoot at 4am! And the nuthatches can be heard in the tall trees at the back of the churchyard. A nice field mouse scurried away from beneath a wood pile the other day, but it was sad to see two dead badgers on the roads out of Kineton in the last week or so.
