Daggers at dawn

Came across a striking grey dagger caterpillar this morning – it is now safely in the breeding cage and will be spending the winter as a pupa. They have a bright yellow stripe along the top, red spots on each side and a tall hump just back from the head. It’s actually fairly common and happily chomps its way through many different leaves – birch, lime, hawthorn, oak, wild rose, etc
