Hawk moths

Hawk moth bonanza last night – two elephant hawks, a poplar hawk and, best of all, a perfect newly hatched lime hawk. All in tip top condition. The lime hawks are only caught in the trap once or twice a year and their rich green/brown/cream patterning is always worth seeing. The elephant hawks should be out and about for a while now, but the lime hawks tend to be on the wing for only a week or two.

The privet hawk (the biggest of the lot!) has never turned up in the garden, but I guess they are somewhere in the village.
